“Void” by Melanie Martinez is one of the songs in her album Portals which was recently released on March 31,2023. The genre of this song is alternative/indie and pop.

The song starts off with an eerie intro repeating “In the void” 7 times before the first verse starts to begin. The beats create the pain and loneliness of how she is feeling throughout her past as she tries to escape the darkness of insecurities, judgment, and self hatred as the song fits into her voice.

Through Melanie’s lyrics, the singer was using the chorus to speak the truth about the society and how it affects herself like for example, “I gotta escape the void, there’s no other choice, yeah, tryna turn down the voices, the void ate me.” But she conveys the other lyrics that describes the harm that she cannot escape like this one: “Like a priest behind confession walls, I judge myself, Kneeling on a metal grater, Bloody, like a body that has died and it’s myself, Tangled in my own intestines, I gotta escape the void, there’s no other choice, yeah, Gotta escape the void.” She uses the repeated words “Gotta escape the void” as she is trying to escape and asking for help from darkness.

“Void” is really an good and deeply symbolism to every person that describes how they feel like Melanie Martinez with her lyrics going eerie, loneliness, and dreamy that keeps the notes and rhythm flow over and over for anyone that wanted to listen to her song of what she trying to say through her message of lyrics.
